Raw chocolate mousse

I love a good chocolate fix as much as the next person. But when it turns into me demolishing a block a day and hiding it in the cupboard so I don't have to share, it's time to admit I have a problem. It wasn't such a big deal in my early 20s but now as I approach my 30s my mummy tummy's telling me it's time to find an alternative. 

Cue, raw chocolate mousse. 

 

It's got a beautifully soft texture and good chocolatey taste, but it's still full of goodness - with not an ounce of processed sugar in sight. The use of bananas in this mousse gives it a packed-punch of potassium, while avocado gives you a boost of those good fats. (Promise you can't taste it). It's a win win!  

 

If you're new to raw food, make sure you use raw organic cacao powder. This chocolatey superfood is processed at lower temperatures than cocoa so it retains its nutrients. Cacao is full of antioxidants, iron, magnesium and calcium. A bag can be quite expensive but it will last you months. 

 

Hope you enjoy this super simple and easy recipe next time you need a chocolate fix. Just blend, chill and demolish! 

 

Ingredients:

1/2 avocado
1 large banana or 2 small bananas
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp maple or honey
1 tbsp cacao powder


Caramel almond topping: 
1/4 cup dates
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 almonds, chopped 

For the mousse:
Blend all mousse ingredients until smooth. 

For the caramel topping

Blend dates and vanilla extract until a paste forms.

Add crushed almonds and spoon on top of mousse. 
Chill in the fridge for an hour... if you can wait that long.
